This accessibility statement applies to www.leedstrinity.ac.uk

This website is run by Leeds Trinity University. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts.
  • zoom in up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen.
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard.
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software.
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

We’ve also made the website text as clear as possible to understand.

There are several customisation options for your browser and device that could help you use this website and other websites more effectively. Advice on making your device easier to use is available from AbilityNet’s My Computer My Way website.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Leeds Trinity University is committed to making this website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the ‘non-compliances and exemptions’ listed below.

Non-accessible content

We test the accessibility of key user journeys that represent the breadth of content across our website on a regular basis against WCAG 2.1 AA standards.

Some parts of the website may not work for everyone. Below are known issues that we need to fix.

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Non-text content

We know that an image link on the website does not have alternative text. This image is generated by Civic, our third-party cookie tool. The image is not visible to users and is used to pull the cookie tool script. This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content , Images must have alternate text.

We have notified them of this issue and have also tested the Cookie Consent with NVDA and Keyboard to ensure that it is accessible to screen reader and keyboard users.

If you have any difficulty using the cookie consent or need assistance please contact us by email: [email protected].

We will complete a further review and remediation of non-text content by June 2023.

Links without meaningful text

Some of the links on our website are not labelled clearly. This means that links do not make sense when taken out of context. Where it has not been possible to use link text alone to describe the purpose of a link in HTML using, aria labels have been used. This fails WCAG 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) (Level A): The purpose of each link can be determined from the link text alone or from the link text together with its programmatically determined link context, except where the purpose of the link would be ambiguous to users in general.

Please contact us if you are experiencing issues with identifying and accessing content through hyperlinks, [email protected].

We will complete a further review and remediation of link text content by June 2023.

Images

The image content on the website has been audited and the majority of content contains meaningful alt-text or image descriptions, where required. However, some images on our website do not have appropriate alternative text. People using screen readers or other assistive devices rely on these descriptions to understand the image content and purpose (WCAG: 1.1.1). Whilst we work to address this issue, please contact us if you need assistance by email: [email protected]

We will complete a further review of alternative text by April 2023.

Video

All video has captions and transcription. Some videos do not have audio descriptions or media alternatives.  This fails WCAG 1.2.3 Audio Descriptions or Media Alternatives (A) and 1.2.5 Audio Descriptions (AA).

We are reviewing our processes to incorporate Audio Description and are working to have reviewed all videos and our processes by March 2023.

PDFs and other attached documents

Some of our existing PDFs and other documents do not meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be accessible to screen reader software.

If you find an issue that we have yet to identify, please contact us using one of the routes described in the ‘Reporting accessibility problems with this website’ section of this statement.

We are prioritising training for staff who produce PDF documents and will review PDFs and other documents by May 2023 and replace them with HTML pages where possible.

We aim to have training measures in place by June 2023 to ensure our document creation, editing and publishing processes meet the required standards.
