If you've applied to study Secondary Education at Leeds Trinity University, and have met the entry criteria, you will be invited to attend an interview.
Once you have completed your interview we will make a decision about your offer.
We are currently conducting all our PGCE Secondary interviews by Teams.
Interview process
The PGCE Secondary interview involves three parts:
- a written assessment of your subject knowledge
- a discussion (led by you) on how you would teach a lesson on a topic of your choice in your chosen subject area
- an individual subject interview
Successful applicants at this stage tend to have strong subject knowledge and a good awareness of how their subject is taught in schools.
This is often because they have researched the curriculum and/or spent time in schools talking with teachers and pupils.
Successful applicants are personable, well-presented, and able to communicate clearly and succinctly.
You will be informed of the full preparation required for your interview once you confirm your attendance.
Before your interview, you should:
- complete a Subject Knowledge Audit (below)
- prepare for the lesson discussion and subject knowledge assessment by finding out about the National Curriculum for England, attempting some GCSE and A-Level examination papers and by reading some recent Ofsted subject reports

Responding to your interview invitation
Once you've been invited to an interview, you'll need to:
- let us know if you'll be attending by responding to [email protected]
- inform us of any disability needs you may have so that we can best support you on the interview day
- let us know if you can't attend immediately at [email protected] stating your name, date of the subject interview day that you cannot attend and your reason for non-attendance
Unfortunately, because of the time restrictions, non-attendance will normally mean that applicants have to re-apply later in the admissions cycle.
If you don't contact us, we will assume that you no longer wish your application to be considered.
Confirming your attendance and failing to attend your interview will mean your application will be rejected by default.
Delivery Partner and Lead Partner-led interview process
Providers will use their own interview processes and will inform you of these if you are invited to interview.
Interview process for Delivery Partner-led distance courses
Our distance Delivery Partners choose to conduct all interview procedures within their own school cluster.
They follow the Leeds Trinity University protocols, but they will liaise with successful applicants directly.
Enquiries can be made to the Administration team at [email protected].
